Cousins gives Kings another top rookie

"The news that the Kings' Tyreke Evans and DeMarcus Cousins will participate in the Rookie Challenge during All-Star Weekend got us thinking.

If the Los Angeles Clippers' Blake Griffin hadn't missed last season - making him eligible for Rookie of the Year this season - the Kings could have had back-to-back winners (assuming Evans could have beaten Griffin). That's only been done four times, and not since Bob McAdoo and Ernie DiGregorio won for the Buffalo Braves in 1972-73 and 1973-74, respectively.

DiGregorio's win capped an era of back-to-back winners. Baltimore's Earl Monroe and Wes Unseld won in 1967-68 and 1968-69. Portland's Geoff Petrie and Sidney Wicks won in 1970-71 and 1971-72 (Petrie was a co-winner with the Boston Celtics' Dave Cowens)."
