Sam Bradford’s torn ACL prompted immediate speculation about whether the Rams might seek a replacement option other than backup Shaun Hill. Of particular interest to Jets fans: Could a reunion between former offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer and former quarterback Mark Sanchez be in the cards?

Sanchez, currently the Eagles’ backup quarterback, has had a brilliant preseason so far, good enough that coach Chip Kelly announced the former fifth-overall pick won’t play in the team’s fourth preseason game against Gang Green. Sanchez has completed 25 of 31 passes with two touchdowns and one interception. He has a 112.5 quarterbacking rating thus far in the preseason. Schottenheimer is the Rams offensive coordinator.

Kelly recently said the team would listen to any trade offers for the backup QB.

“What are you giving me?” Kelly said on Aug. 17. “I mean, we’ll listen to anything for anybody. We’re not just going to put our head in the sand and say no. It better be a pretty good deal in terms of what it is. But that’s not in any of our thought process.”

Kelly also said at the time that no team had attempted to acquire Sanchez.
