"Darrelle Revis rightly garners much of the ink and the accolades at his position in New York, but according to several Giants, Corey Webster also should be listed among the top cover cornerbacks in the NFL.
The seventh-year defensive back clearly is appreciative of that praise and equally confident in his body of work as he guns for his second Super Bowl ring next Sunday against Tom Brady and the Patriots.
"I realize it. That's all that counts, is me. And as long as my teammates (think that), that's all that matters," Webster said after practice Friday at the Meadowlands.
"I think I'm great. I think I'm the best thing out there. I don't think I'm second to nobody."
Webster was quick to add that fellow cornerback Aaron Ross and the rest of the Giants' secondary "feel the same way," so perhaps his self-appraisal wasn't as boastful as it first appeared.
Still, Webster has every reason to be proud of what has been an excellent 2011 campaign — with bookend corner Terrell Thomas missing the entire season after suffering a torn ACL in training camp.
Webster's year included a career-best six interceptions and, most recently, a Revis-like shutdown of San Francisco receiver Michael Crabtree, who caught just one pass for three yards in the NFC Championship Game."
