With their loss Saturday night to the Baltimore Ravens at M&T Bank Stadium, the Indianapolis Colts secured a top-three spot in the 2018 NFL Draft.

Because the Colts have been out of playoff contention for the majority of the season, several fans would rather see their draft position improve but they will be at the top of the draft order, per ESPN’s Mike Wells.

Wells also points out that there is a chance the Colts can even move up to the No. 2 overall pick, depending on how the final weekend shakes out.

The loss, their 12th of the season, has guaranteed them a top-three pick in next spring’s NFL draft. At this point in the season, draft positioning outweighs victories for Indianapolis. The Colts, depending on what happens in their season finale against Houston on Dec. 31 and what the New York Giants do in their final two games, could move up to the second spot in the draft.

Having a selection in the first three picks of the draft will be vital to the rebuild.
