Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski said in a recent ESPN podcast that star player Grayson Allen had successful surgery on an ankle this offseason.

“We had him away from basketball for about three months,” Krzyzewski said of Allen. “He had a minor operation on his ankle. He’s now fully recovered, so his athleticism is back. He’s happy, he’s in shape and he’s sharing that.”

Allen entered 2016-17 as USA TODAY Sports’ preseason national player of the year, but struggled to find the same rhythm that made him an All-American as a sophomore. His scoring average dropped from 21.6 points per game as a sophomore to 14.5 last year.
