Major League Baseball didn't accept Ubaldo Jimenez's contention that hitting former teammate Troy Tulowitzki was an accident on Sunday. As a result, Jimenez was suspended Monday for the first five games of the regular season and will be fined an amount that has not yet been disclosed.

Jimenez hit Colorado's star shortstop (video can be seen here) on the left elbow with a pitch in the first inning of a 12-11 Cleveland victory on Sunday. Rockies manager Jim Tracy was incensed after the game and said Jimenez should be suspended.

"I don't think I should be suspended," said Jimenez, this morning. "A hit by pitch is something that happens every day in the game. It's not a surprise when someone gets hit.

"A guy like him, you have to try and go inside him. "

Tracy called Jimenez's action "the most gutless act I've seen in 35 years of professional baseball. I've lost all respect for him ... all of it."
