"Who is that guy? He sure looks like Ty Conklin.

More than a few players did a double-take after seeing goalie Ty Conklin the past couple days.

Gone was the bushy beard, the overgrown hair. It took a while to adjust to the clean-shaven, clean-cut Conklin.

"Time to clean it up a little bit," said Conklin, with exhibition games beginning. Conklin will be in net tonight when the Wings face Philadelphia in London, Ontario.

Conklin was signed over the summer to replace the retired Chris Osgood, and to back up Jimmy Howard. It was a return engagement for Conklin who, ironically, backed up Osgood during the 2008-09 season.

"Definitely, it feels the right choice (to return)," said Conklin, who spent the last two seasons in St. Louis. "It makes it easier when there's a lot of familiar faces all through the organization. That part of it is nice.""
