"National League Cy Young Award winner Clayton Kershaw asked the Dodgers for a $10-million salary on Tuesday, with the Dodgers countering at $6.5 million.
The exchange of proposed salaries was mandated by the arbitration process. The Dodgers avoided arbitration with Andre Ethier and James Loney earlier in the day, agreeing to pay Ethier $10.95 million and Loney $6.375 million.
Kershaw earned $500,000 last season, the final one in which the Dodgers could pay him whatever they liked. This is the first season in which he is eligible for salary arbitration."
