When Red Sox manager Bobby Valentine went to the mound with one out in the ninth inning of a tie game yesterday, Clay Buchholz handed him the ball.

Call it a reflex.

"I just thought he was coming out to get me, but he was like, 'I was just coming to check on how you're doing,'?" Buchholz said. "I was like, 'Go back to the dugout and let me try to get a ground-ball double play right here.'?"
