"On the NFL's most demanding stage, Reggie Wayne and Dallas Clark have delivered.
The secret to their ability to produce consistently in the playoffs?
"No real secret," said Clark, the Indianapolis Colts' ultra-effective tight end. "I just think it's one of those things (where) you try to play your best this time of year."
In 98 regular-season games, Clark has had at least 100 receiving yards seven times. He has done it three times in nine postseason appearances. When the Colts got on a four-game roll that took them to Super Bowl XLI after the 2006 season, Clark arguably was their most valuable offensive player with 21 receptions and 317 yards.
"This is what we play for," he said. "This is the fun time of year."
Wayne earned his fourth straight Pro Bowl appearance this season after catching 100 passes for the second time in his career and eclipsing the 1,000-yard mark for a sixth consecutive season.
There likely will be no letup this evening against the Ravens in an AFC divisional clash. Wayne is the Colts' all-time postseason leader in receptions (66), yards (963) and touchdowns (eight). He demoralized the Denver Broncos in a 2004 wild-card game with 10 catches for 221 yards and two touchdowns. The yardage is the third-most in league postseason history.
"I think it's just that we're not ready to go home," Wayne said. "We just understand what a playoff game really is and what it really means. We're the old heads around here, so we just understand it differently than a lot of the younger guys do."
Start your enginesIt has been almost a month since the Colts played a game that had implications in the standings or on playoff seedings. A good start tonight would go a long way toward reassuring fans uneasy with past playoff failures.
The Colts wouldn't mind, either."
