Brandon Phillips had no idea he was on the verge of a career milestone, but he said he was honored to achieve it before a Reds home crowd.

Second baseman Phillips on Sunday recorded his 1,000th hit as a Red and 1,089th overall. Phillips' first 89 career hits came with Cleveland, and he joined the Reds in 2006.

"I really knew nothing about the 1,000th hit," Phillips said. "I just go out there and play the game. I don't worry about stats. For me to get that 1000th hit here, it's a beautiful thing."
