"Wearing his Mariners jacket and mingling with fans at Safeco Field on Saturday, Chone Figgins looked like someone completely comfortable in his surroundings.

And when he spoke to the media during a break from his FanFest appearance, Figgins made it clear he doesn't want to play for anyone but the Mariners in 2011.

Responding to trade rumors swirling around him, Figgins said, "I've always said, it's great to be wanted, but I want to win here. I've said all along, this has been one of the best places I've ever played — the city, the fans. I'll always love playing here.

"This is where I want to be, and until they force me out of here, this is where I'm going to be."

A story out of the Bay Area on Friday said the Oakland A's are pursuing Figgins, who will be in the second season of a four-year, $36 million contract in 2011. The contract includes limited no-trade provisions that allow him to veto a deal to Oakland.

Asked if he would waive those rights if presented with a trade to the A's, Figgins replied, "I want to be here. Like I said, I want to be here."

Figgins reiterated those comments to Mariners general manager Jack Zduriencik during their conversation Saturday at Safeco Field.

"He said, 'I'm here to play for Seattle, I'm here to win, and I want to be part of this thing as we move forward.' I appreciate him saying that," Zduriencik said.

As he had Friday, Zduriencik told reporters, "Our plan when we open the season is that Chone is going to be our third baseman."

Figgins, who turned 33 last week, said he is looking forward to a big season after a tumultuous first year in Seattle."
