John Obi Mikel is a summer target for Serie A side Inter Milan, writes Neil McLeman.

The Nigeria midfielder, who has been at Chelsea since 2006, still has three years left on his contract.

However, he is now surplus to requirements at the Stamford Bridge side following the £21million January re-signing of ex-Blue Nemanja Matic to play as the shield in front of Jose Mourinho's back four.

Mikel has started only 10 Premier League matches this season, while making 13 more appearances in the top flight as a substitute.

Javi Garcia of Manchester City and Tottenham's Sandro are alternatives on the Inter’s wish-list as they rebuild after a disappointing season that could yet see them fail to qualify for even the Europe League.
