Chelsea have blocked Demba Ba's proposed season-long loan to Arsenal - because they see Gunners boss Arsene Wenger's men as title rivals.

Arsenal were keen to sign Ba offering Chelsea a £1.5million loan fee and were hopeful of signing the striker as back-up for Olivier Giroud.

But Chelsea held out for £3m and made it clear they ultimately preferred him to go elsewhere rather than Arsenal with West Ham United and Napoli also interested.

However Chelsea have decided to keep Senegalese striker Ba and that means Arsenal are left short of striking options with Nicklas Bendtner likely to stay but it's hard to see him playing for Arsenal again such has been his fall from grace at the club.

Wenger has made three summer signings with Yaya Sanogo and Emiliano Viviano joining former Gunner Mathieu Flamini and the club are expected to finalise a club record deal for German international Mezut Ozil from Real Madrid.

Blues boss Jose Mourinho has allowed Victor Moses to leave for Liverpool on loan while new signing Christian Atsu has joined Vitesse Arnhem on loan hours after sealing a deal from Porto.
