"A spot is open on the Chargers coaching staff, as longtime offensive assistant Clarence Shelmon has resigned.
It is believed Shelmon, who made the decision to leave based on some health concerns, is going to take at least a year off from the profession he has been in for almost four decades.
Shelmon served as offensive coordinator since 2007, though head coach Norv Turner has always called the offensive plays. His primary role was as an advisor in the run game, as he was a respected running backs coach before Marty Schottenheimer named him offensive coordinator shortly before Schottenheimer was fired."
