"Former Dolphins linebacker Channing Crowder will reserve all his future trash talk for the radio booth.
Crowder, cut by the Dolphins less than two weeks ago after six NFL seasons, announced Tuesday on 560-AM that he has opted to retire instead of pursue a job as a backup with another team.
Crowder, 27, said he worked out for the Patriots and had interest from the Bills, Eagles and Bears, but he would rather stay in South Florida with his new family. He got married this summer and his first son is due at the end of August. He also hosted his own radio show this summer and expects to begin a career in the media.
"I woke up, saw my pregnant wife, and all the teams talking to me are way up North, and I said, 'I don't want to do it,' " Crowder said on the Sid Rosenberg Show. "I looked at my wife and said, 'Nah, I'm going to be a family man now.' "
Crowder, a third-round pick in 2005 out of Florida, started 74 games at middle linebacker in six seasons. Popular in the locker room and known across the league as one of the game's best trash-talkers, Crowder had average production with the Dolphins, compiling just 2.5 sacks and one interception in his career. The team cut him on the first day of training camp and replaced him with free-agent linebacker Kevin Burnett."
