Clay Buchholz has been a better pitcher since making significant alterations to his changeup.

The Red Sox starter used the pitch to keep the Baltimore Orioles batters off-balance, while mixing in a splitter, fastball and curve in going the distance in a 7-0 victory last night at Fenway Park.

"The only adjustment to (my change) was the grip, I think the grip was a little off," said Buchholz. "I've been able to free that up a little bit.

"I still spike some and let some go up against the righties but not nearly as much as I was doing. It's been a pitch we've been trying to work on for a long time. It wasn't the same grip as in past years but it's coming back."
