Chad Henne, Brandon Marshall thrive in Dolphins' first scrimmage

"Before the Dolphins' first real scrimmage of the preseason, quarterback Chad Henne and receiver Brandon Marshall shared a conversation Sunday.

To that point, the two hadn't appeared in synch during training camp — a troubling sight given the issues they shared in 2010, when the Dolphins' offense was among the worst in franchise history.

But then came their talk. And after that, an afternoon when Henne and Marshall worked together perhaps like they never had before. Yes, it is only the preseason. And this was only an intrasquad scrimmage.

Even so, Henne and Marshall on Sunday offered a glimpse of what they can do together provided things are clicking. For once, they were. Henne and Marshall connected for three touchdowns — the first two coming on the first-team offense's first series of plays.

The first touchdown pass came from 29 yards out, after Marshall had beaten cornerback Sean Smith. Henne placed the pass in a spot where only Marshall could grab it, and he made the catch over his shoulder a few yards deep into the end zone near the right sideline.

Before the scrimmage began, Henne and Marshall talked about how they could best work together. Mostly, Henne said, it was a conversation about details.

"The details have to be solid out here," he said. "I mean, if [Marshall is] in one spot and I'm throwing to another spot, we're not on the same page. And if I know where he's going to be, I can at least give him a chance to put the ball up for him."

After his first touchdown catch, fans gathered at the Dolphins' practice facility cheered loudly. Marshall ran from the end zone to the side of the field closest to the fans, and he threw the ball into the stands in celebration."
