"If a pitcher needs to be replaced on the AL All-Star team, CC Sabathia would be happy to take a call this week from the manager, Texas' Ron Washington, but only to pass on David Robertson's phone number.

Sabathia, who was not selected for the team and will be on vacation in the Bahamas with his family during the All-Star break, said he'd say, "Thanks, but no thanks," if he were asked to fill in. Besides, Robertson, who was not one of the six Yankees selected, ought to be honored, Sabathia said.

"I think I am more disappointed for him than anything," Sabathia said. "He's having a fabulous year. His numbers are ridiculous. I think he definitely deserves to be there."

Four Yankees - Curtis Granderson, Robinson Cano, Alex Rodriguez and Derek Jeter - were voted by fans to start the Midsummer Classic, which is July 12 in Phoenix. Mariano Rivera and Russell Martin, who led the voting for catchers until the final week, were selected as reserves by player balloting.

Mark Teixeira did not make the team as Boston first baseman Adrian Gonzalez was voted the starter with the Tigers' Miguel Cabrera chosen as a backup.

The Mets had two selections - Jose Reyes was voted by fans as the NL's starting shortstop and Carlos Beltran was picked as a reserve outfielder by Giants manager Bruce Bochy, the NL skipper."
