"While trade talks with the Denver Nuggets remain stalled, the Cavaliers have engaged the Charlotte Bobcats in discussions over small forward Gerald Wallace, according to a published report.

The Cavaliers continue to have multiple discussions with teams around the league, but Yahoo Sports reported Friday that the Cavs and Bobcats are narrowing in on a deal that would give the Cavaliers Wallace and perhaps a lottery-protected, first-round draft pick for taking on the remainder of his hefty contract.

The Cavaliers have been trying to use their $14.5 million trade exception obtained in the LeBron James deal to acquire draft picks. They initially tried to help facilitate the Carmelo Anthony deal between the Nuggets and New Jersey Nets, but according to one league source, the Cavs haven't had discussions with the Nuggets since before the holidays.

The Bobcats, a franchise desperate to cut costs, have been trying to unload Wallace for weeks. He is the highest paid player on the team and has two years and about $22 million left on his current deal.

Wallace would fill one of the team's biggest needs - the Cavs have started six different players at small forward this season - but the Cavs are more interested in the draft pick."
