On Wednesday morning Greg Schiano shoved his chips in on rookie quarterback Mike Glennon giving him the starting nod over Josh Freeman in Week 3 against the Cardinals (and basically forever). This had been coming for a while.

That was made even more clear when Carson Palmer speaking on a conference call in advance of Buccaneers-Cards said that Tampa was calling his agent "a lot" this past offseason.

"My agent had said that Tampa had been contacting him a lot" Palmer said. "I would have been very excited to be there. Their organization has a lot of good players across the board but like I said I'm excited and happy to be where I am. I'm excited about our future."

(Quick aside: these quotes are awkwardly featured on Buccaneers.com because Freeman insult injury etc.)

Palmer was under contract in Oakland but with Reggie McKenzie setting fire to the roster he was very much expendable. The Raiders shipped him off to Arizona for pennies on the dollar. Palmer clearly wasn't happy in Oakland -- even though they gave up two pricey draft picks for him -- and the Raiders felt they could just go forward with Matt Flynn.

Tampa like Arizona obviously was involved in some of the trade talks and believed that Palmer had something left in the tank. Otherwise they wouldn't have blown up his agent's phone.
