"The Carolina Panthers waived safety Jermale Hines on Tuesday after the rookie from Ohio State failed to make many special teams contributions.

Hines was claimed off waivers Oct. 4 after the Panthers released safety Sean Considine in another move designed to boost the struggling special teams.

But Hines had just two special teams tackles in five games with the Panthers, who rank at or near the bottom of several special teams categories.

Hines, 24, a fifth-round pick by St. Louis, was not in the Panthers' secondary rotation.

The Panthers did not announce a corresponding roster move."
