Carmelo Anthony left tonight’s game in the second quarter with a right-knee injury after tripping over himself when catching a pass at midcourt and was not expected to return.
The Knicks were getting blown out at the time by the Cavs at Quick Loans Arena when Anthony fell hard to the floor, fumbling over his feet. He got up slowly, wincing, and hobbled off to the locker room, unassisted, with 6:42 left in the half.
The Knicks were down by 21 points and Melo had missed his first four shots and was 1 of 5 for 6 points. After yesterday’s loss vs. Miami, Melo had hyperextended his left arm after a fall but said he also had treatment on his knee. The Knicks would not specify the kind of knee injury it was.
After Melo left, the Knicks went on a 10-0 run.
The Knicks trailed61-49 at halftime and Amar'e Stoudemire started for Anthony to start the third quarter.
