The Rockies are scuffling, lacking the big hit at the right time, but manager Walt Weiss is sticking to his game plan by giving players a game off when he thinks they need it.

In the case of Friday night’s game against the Dodgers, that means sitting left fielder and No. 3 hitter Carlos Gonzalez.

“Yesterday I had a pretty good idea that I would (rest him),” Weiss said. “He’s been playing well, but he’s been grinding for a long time, so this was a day for him.”

CarGo, hitting .309 with a team-high 13 home runs, has not had a complete day off since April 14 at San Diego. He did not play in the second game of a double headers against the Braves on April 23.
