"The San Francisco Giants are 1-1 without Carlos Beltran in the lineup since he strained his hand in Sunday's victory over the Philadelphia Phillies. Still, the team is anxious to return the fella to the lineup since he's the guy they went after before the trading deadline to help get the offense going again and assist in the team putting some space between them and the Arizona Diamondbacks in the National League West.

The Giants, however, are 3-7 in their last 10, and the D'Backs have gone 6-4, putting them only a half game behind San Francisco.

Manager Bruce Bochy said the injury is "much improved," according to the San Jose Mercury News, and that Beltran could return Wednesday or Friday when the Giants take on the Marlins."
