"As first reported by the Post-Dispatch's Joe Strauss on Monday, the Cardinals have extended righthander Chris Carpenter's contract through the 2013 season.

The official announcement will be made at 2 p.m. (Central time) today at PNC Park by general manager John Mozeliak.

Carpenter, who will start tonight's game against the Pittsburgh Pirates, is believed to have agreed to a two-year, $21 million deal."
