"The Cardinals plan to release inside linebacker Gerald Hayes and quarterback Derek Anderson, both former starters, this week, while the status of outside linebacker Joey Porter remains unchanged, for now at least.
The departures of Hayes and Anderson were expected. Anderson struggled last year in his only season with the team, and Hayes became a part-time player after undergoing back surgery a year ago.
Anderson was due to make $3.9 million in salary this season, while Hayes was scheduled to make $4.25 million.
The Cardinals are holding on to Porter, at least for now, because they don't have much depth at outside linebacker. Porter, due to make $5.75 million salary in 2011 and in 2012, could be released if the Cardinals replenish the position through free agency.
The right outside linebacker spot is open, and the leaders in the competition are O'Brien Schofield, a fourth-round pick in 2010, and Sam Acho, a fourth-round selection this year."
