"Cardinals defensive coordinator Ray Horton had never interviewed for an NFL head coaching position before Friday. But there isn't anything he would change about the five-hour meeting he had with Rams officials.
"I think things went excellent," Horton said. "When it was over they called my agent and said they were blown away by him and he couldn't have been any better."
Horton's interview came a day after the Rams interviewed former Titans coach Jeff Fisher, who has also met with the Dolphins.
"I'm not naive enough to believe Jeff Fisher isn't the No. 1 guy," Horton said. "But I think they had to do their due diligence."
The Rams are interested in a second interview, Horton said, which could come as early as this week, depending on Fisher's decision. The Rams also told Horton they were interested in interviewing coaching candidates on teams currently in the playoffs. Horton did not ask for their names.
NFL teams are required to interview a minority candidate when seeking a head coach, and the meeting with Horton satisfies that requirement.
But Horton left the interview feeling the Rams' interest level in him was higher than just fulfilling an obligation to the NFL.
"I didn't have anything on paper," he said. "I didn't want to come with a big, organization book. They were all just honest answers off the top of my head."
The interview took place in Denver, where owner Stan Kroenke lives. Kroenke and four his front office staff participated, Horton said."
