The University of Louisville basketball team received its first recruiting commitment in the 2015 class on Monday night from five-star wing Deng Adel, who was arguably the Cardinals’ top target at his position.

Adel, a 6-foot-7 player from Victory Rock Prep School in Bradenton, Fla., is ranked the No. 18 player in the 2015 class by Scout.com.

He averaged 22 points and eight rebounds last season and has been a star this spring and summer in playing on the Adidas travel circuit, raising his national profile.

Adel will follow a similar path to U of L as current sophomore center Mangok Mathiang, his longtime friend. Like Mathiang, Adel is a native of Sudan who moved to Australia as a youngster and grew up there before coming to the United States to play high school basketball.
