If there’s anything this weekend’s back-to-back games should have reminded the Capitals, it’s that with the regular season rapidly coming to a close and two points separating five teams from 8th to 12th place in the Eastern Conference, plenty more tight and desperate games lie ahead.
On Saturday night the Capitals clawed back from a two-goal deficit to force overtime and win in a shootout against Buffalo. Sunday night they were on the other side as Philadelphia fought back from two down en route to a 5-4 overtime win.
“When you’re up, you’ve got to be able to play with a lead, and when you’re down, you gotta show character and come back,” Mike Green said. “I’m sure we’ll see more of these games, most importantly we’ve got to start making sure we get the two points instead of just one.”
By falling in overtime to the Flyers, Washington allowed them to hang around on the playoff bubble rather than seizing an opportunity to push them further behind.
