"The Vancouver Canucks could get a boost Tuesday with the possible return of injured defenceman Sami Salo, but the charge they really need is from struggling first-liners Daniel and Henrik Sedin.
With the National Hockey League scoring champions struggling — the twins are pointless in three games and in their last six playoff games have combined for two goals, one assist and a minus-13 rating — Canucks coach Alain Vigneault reunited the Sedins with Alex Burrows for Monday's practice.
The Canucks have just two goals in nearly eight periods against the Nashville Predators, whose 2-1 double-overtime win Saturday evened the National Hockey League second-round playoff series at 1-1. Game 3 is here Tuesday (6 p.m., CBC, Team 1040).
"I wouldn't read too much into what you saw today," Vigneault said of his lines. "In the five years I've had Henrik and Daniel, when we put Alex with them it seemed their production took off. [But] Kes and Burr right now are playing real well, pretty much our best line, so it's tough to break up."
Burrows and linemate Ryan Kesler have been Vancouver's best skaters since the final two games of the Canucks' first-round series against the Blackhawks, so Vigneault risks having two cold forward units if he replaces Mikael Samuelsson with Burrows alongside the Sedins."
