When the Falcons placed defensive end Derrick Shelby on injured reserve Tuesday, they promoted safety Sharrod Neasman to the active roster.

On Wednesday, they made room for a new addition to the defensive line by saying farewell to a safety. Cliff Matthews is the new arrival on the 53-man roster while veteran Dashon Goldson has been cut loose.

The Falcons signed Goldson in late August while first-round pick Keanu Neal was out after having knee surgery and saw action in four games this year. Goldson had one tackle in those appearances, which mostly saw him playing on special teams. Goldson started 15 games for the Redskins last year, but was met with a cold market when Washington released him in March.
