The all-time leading shot blocker in NCHSAA history will finish his college basketball career at UNC Asheville, according to his former high school coach.

Mountain Heritage graduate John Cannon was a 6-foot-10 junior center on Georgia's roster last season, but left the team prior to the Southeastern Conference tournament. He averaged 1.4 points, 1.1 rebounds and five blocks while appearing in 18 games as a reserve.

Cannon's career highs for points (10) and rebounds (seven) came his sophomore year in a nonconference game against Southern California.

Cannon put out a statement at the time of his departure that he was transferring "to consider other opportunities to play basketball and get my degree. I want to thank Georgia for the opportunity and support, especially my teammates who mean the world to me."

Cannon will have to sit out the 2014-15 season in accordance with NCAA transfer rules. Cannon finished his career at Mountain Heritage with a state-record 620 blocked shots.
