"The number -- 100 -- is alluring, yet doesn't overshadow the bigger picture.
Even though Indianapolis Colts tight end Dallas Clark is closing in on an NFL milestone, perhaps even a record, he'll take a 'W' any day.
"Stats are good and all,'' Clark said, "but they mean nothing if you're not winning. If it's one catch and a win, that's fine with me.''
Clark is experiencing the best of both worlds in this, his seventh season.
This afternoon against the New York Jets in Lucas Oil Stadium, the Colts go after just the second 15-0 regular-season start in NFL history. If they get it, they'll extend their league-record regular-season winning streak to 24 games and their club-record home winning streak to 14.
Likewise, Clark is chasing history. He needs just three receiving yards to become the Colts' first tight end to reach 1,000 in a season, and 11 catches to join Tony Gonzalez as the only tight ends in NFL history with at least 100 in a season.
"As long as all these stats and everything are complemented with winning, that's all that matters,'' Clark said. "But, yeah, (100 receptions) would be cool.''
Reaching 100 might be difficult, as selected front-liners might start seeing diminished playing time today and certainly next Sunday at Buffalo.
However, the Colts have proven resourceful when it comes to juggling team and individual objectives."
