"Indianapolis Colts Pro Bowl receiver Reggie Wayne exited today's practice early with a knee injury that is not believed serious enough to keep him out of Super Bowl XLIV.
In a pool report submitted by the league, Wayne re-aggravated an old injury, the fat pad to his right knee, while running a pass pattern. He left the field unassisted and headed inside for treatment 20 minutes before the end of practice.
Colts coach Jim Caldwell said he didn't think the injury was severe. Wayne is listed as probable on the team's injury report for Sunday's NFL title game.
"He just irritated the fat pad in his knee," the coach said in the pool report.
Starting rookie cornerback Jerraud Powers participated on a limited basis in his first practice since fracturing his left foot in the first quarter of the AFC Divisional playoffs on Jan. 17.
Earlier in the day, Caldwell confirmed Powers needed surgery to repair the foot, a common procedure known as an "internal fixation of a fractured foot."
The surgery, according to St. Vincent Sports Performance director Ralph Reiff, involves, "using either surgical screws or pins to pull the fracture together to accelerate proper healing." The certified athletic trainer added, "The short-term and long-term outcome for using this procedure is very good.""
