Cal State Northridge has decided to fire its head coach. Reggie Theus will not be given a sixth season, FanRag Sports has learned, with the Big West program firing him on Tuesday.

Theus’ Matadors finished out a 6-24 season last week and did not qualify for the Big West Tournament, the only team in the nine-program conference to fail to do this season.

Known more for his time as an NBA player, the two-time All-Star’s highest-profile coaching job also came at that level. But the Sacramento Kings fired Theus midway through his second season — the 2008-09 campaign — and the NBA veteran spent the next two seasons as a Minnesota Timberwolves assistant.

This came after Theus had guided New Mexico State to the 2007 WAC Tournament championship. But Theus’ return to the college ranks did not go as well as his initial NCAA stay did.
