BYU's Fredette highlights Kings predraft workout

"Jimmer Fredette won several national Player of the Year awards as a senior at BYU, but there still are plenty of questions about the high-scoring guard.

There's doubt about the competition Fredette dominated in the unheralded Mountain West Conference. And many question if Fredette can be a pure point guard in the NBA.

Fredette displayed his skills to the Kings on Thursday in a predraft workout.

Fredette was the big name in a group that included forwards Josh Harrellson (Kentucky), Tobias Harris (Tennessee), Tyler Honeycutt (UCLA) and Sam Muldrow (South Carolina) and guard Randy Culpepper (UTEP).

Many question whether Fredette will be a defensive liability as a pro.

"That's the biggest question," Fredette said. "I hear it all the time. I've been told that my whole entire life. It's something that I have to overcome, and it's my job to go in there and try to prove them wrong, show them that I can play defense within a system and be a good player in this league."

Fredette is the most likely of the six players to be drafted by the Kings with the seventh overall pick. The Kings want to improve perimeter shooting, and Fredette made 39.6 percent of his three-point attempts while averaging 28.9 points and 4.3 assists as a senior.

Fredette said his discussions with Kings co-owner Gavin Maloof and coach Paul Westphal after the workout were encouraging."
