By any measure, Rodgers rates as league's best QB

"Passer rating stands as the most traditional way to measure a quarterback's success, even if the overwhelming majority of fans couldn't guess the equation.

ESPN debuted its Total QBR in 2011 that takes into account a quarterback's passing, rushing, sacks, fumbles and penalties on a 0-100 scale. Sixty-five or above is, according to ESPN, a Pro Bowl level and 75 or more is MVP range.

Bring sabermetrics to the table and there's another armful of ways to dissect a quarterback.

Former Super Bowl winning coach and current Monday Night Football analyst Jon Gruden has a simpler method — wins.

"There's a lot of ways to evaluate quarterbacks statistically, but I look at winning as the No. 1 criteria," Gruden said. "When I go to a major league baseball game, I like to go see the best pitcher play. If a guy is 18-4, I'm going to see that guy pitch. When a guy is 4-11, I'm probably not going to the ballpark."

Three-time Super Bowl winner and Hall of Famer Troy Aikman didn't need an abacus either for his quarterback evaluation.

"I think the most important thing a quarterback has to be able to do is throw the ball straight," Aikman said. "Everybody always says what do you look at first — toughness, arm strength, mobility, intangibles, leadership? I always say, the first thing the guy better be able to do, if I'm picking him, is throw the ball straight because nothing else matters if he can't throw it where he wants to throw."
