"John Bunting, an Eagles linebacker for 11 seasons who played on the franchise's first Super Bowl team under coach Dick Vermeil, wants to come back.
Bunting contacted Eagles coach Andy Reid about the team's linebackers coach vacancy, according to a source close to the situation, and the two spoke for about a half hour.
Bunting, who has eight years of NFL coaching experience and was also the head coach of nearby Rowan University, was the defensive coordinator for Vermeil with the Rams from 1997 to 1999 and won a Super Bowl ring with St. Louis in 1999. University of Delaware coach K.C. Keeler was on Bunting's staff at Rowan.
Bunting last coached at his alma mater, the University of North Carolina, where he compiled a 27-45 record in six seasons as head coach. He was fired after the 2006 season and succeeded by Butch Davis."
