Buccaneers DC Mike Smith said the team “would always like” to add a pass rusher after being asked if the team had any interest in veteran free agent DE Dwight Freeney.

“Dwight Freeney has had a lot of success rushing the passer, and we have not had a lot of success rushing the passer this season,’’ Smith said, via Roy Cummings of Florida Football Insider. “Not to be Captain Obvious there, but we would always like to add someone that can help us rush the passer. We’re always looking to do that.’’

Freeney, 37, is a former first-round pick of the Colts back in 2002. After spending 11 years in Indianapolis, Freeney signed on with the Chargers as a free agent and spent two seasons in San Diego.
