Bryant becomes youngest NBA player to reach 28,000-point mark

"Kobe Bryant reached a milestone, then skipped out of a postgame interview after the Lakers' loss Sunday to the Denver Nuggets.

He scored his 28,000th point when he sank a free throw with 10:43 left in the third quarter.

At 33 years, 131 days, he is the youngest to score that many points.

Bryant's scoring statistics are staggering.

Only five players in league history have scored more points than Bryant, who trails only Shaquille O'Neal (28,596), Wilt Chamberlain (31,419), Michael Jordan (32,292), Karl Malone (36,928) and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (38,387) on the all-time list.

Jordan and Bryant are the only guards in the top six, however.

Bryant has said Abdul-Jabbar could be impossible to catch simply because he's unlikely to play long enough to pass the Lakers legend, who retired after the 1988-89 season at 42. Bryant reached 28,000 points more than a year ahead of Abdul-Jabbar.

Jordan, who could be within Bryant's reach, was almost 35 before he reached 28,000 points.

In terms of games, Bryant is the fifth-fastest to get to the milestone at 1,109. Chamberlain needed only 825 games, followed by Jordan (886), Abdul-Jabbar (1,008) and Malone (1,070). O'Neal needed 1,154 games. "
