Jason Bay took a dive on Gregor Blanco's shot to left field in the fourth inning of yesterday's doubleheader nightcap and might be facing an extended absence from the Mets' lineup.
Bay left the game with bruised left ribs and expects to be revaluated today, after initial X-rays last night were negative. Bay, who initially remained in the game, said he may need an MRI exam today.
"Originally it just felt like I jarred my shoulder a little," Bay said after the Mets were swept 6-1 and 7-2 by the Giants. "As a few innings went on I started to have a little [ribs] discomfort."
