Bruised Jeter, A-Rod both day-to-day

"The Yankees were without Derek Jeter and Alex Rodriguez due to injury last night, and not only are both doubtful to play tonight but Jeter required a golf cart for the ride to the team bus after last night's game because of a sore right knee.

Jeter, suffered a contusion to his knee in the first game of yesterday's doubleheader against the Orioles -- the same game in which he became the Yankees' all-time leader in games played. Rodriguez sat out the nightcap because of a sprained left thumb -- which forced him to miss two games last week. Manager Joe Girardi does not expect either superstar to play in tonight's series finale.

"It is somewhat of a concern," Girardi said.

The injuries are not well-timed with the Yankees heading to Fenway Park for a three-game series with the Red Sox beginning tomorrow.

Jeter hurt his knee when he fouled a ball off it in the third inning the opener. He hobbled around, and both Girardi and trainer Gene Monahan came out to examine him. Jeter stayed in the game.

"It's really nothing," he said afterwards.

Jeter was in the lineuop for the nightcap but was scratched shotrtly before the first pitch.

"We iced it between games and then afterwards it swelled up and it became a challenge," Jeter said. "It just blew up between games.

"It was really bizarre to be quite honest with you.""
