The Reds plan to play Shin-Soo Choo in center field. But Jay Bruce called Dusty Baker and offered a backup plan.
"Jay asked if I wanted him to come in lighter in case Choo is better a right fielder than center fielder," Baker said.
Choo has only played 10 games in the majors in center — one in the last six years. Bruce has played 35 games in center — all in the 2008.
Baker appreciated the gesture by Bruce.
"That's the main thing about this team: We have guys of character who are open-minded to doing what it takes to help the team win," he said.
Other than decision to play Choo in center or right, the Reds don't have a lot of questions going into spring training. The plan is to move Aroldis Chapman from closing to the rotation.
