It's been more than 11 months since Jonathan Broxton stood on a big-league mound in a save situation. And it's been four-plus years since the Royals operated without the security of having Joakim Soria when things get tight late in games.

So, yes, it was a big deal Sunday when the Royals, even up by four runs, summoned Broxton in the ninth inning. The Angels had two runners on base, no outs and the middle third of their order lined up to bat.

And since this is Angel Stadium, and part of what owner Arte Moreno likes to think of as Los Angeles, it's no surprise the crowd of 32,227 serenaded Broxton, who spent the previous seven seasons with the Dodgers with a chant of "Dod-ger re-ject!"
