Browns QB Brady Quinn will visit specialist for Lisfranc foot injury

"Brady Quinn has a Lisfranc injury in his left foot and will visit a noted specialist Tuesday to help determine whether or not the Browns quarterback needs surgery, a league source told The Plain Dealer.

Quinn, who suffered the injury Dec. 20 in Kansas City, will travel to Charlotte, N.C. to see Dr. Robert Anderson, who recently repaired the Lisfranc injury suffered by Dolphins running back Ronnie Brown. Brown, who had the surgery in late November, is expected back well before the 2010 season.

Team president Mike Holmgren he doesn't think Quinn will require surgery, and the source concurred that "the likelihood of surgery is remote."

Holmgren said during a conference call Monday, "I met with our training staff today. I don't believe he's going to need surgery. He needs some time, clearly. As far as the specifics of the injury, we can talk a little about that [during a press conference] Tuesday. Lisfranc, that's the first thought, yeah."

The injury occurs when there's a dislocation or fracture and dislocation between the forefoot and midfoot joints.

If Quinn doesn't require surgery, he could be back working out within a matter of weeks, a source said. If he has surgery, it would be several months.

Quinn suffered the injury on a 24-yard scramble on the Browns' final drive, a key third-down conversion that led to Jerome Harrison's game-winning touchdown run. Harrison ran the ball on the final three plays after Quinn's injury, which did not cause Quinn to leave the game. "
