Browns coach Rob Chudzinski announced Wednesday morning he'll wait until later in the week to name his starting quarterback for the Patriots,, because Jason Campbell and Brandon Weeden have not yet been cleared to practice.

They've been cleared for activity, but not for practice, and Chudzinski doesn't know when they'll get the green light from the independent specialists.

In the meantime, he'll get Alex Tanney and newly signed Caleb Hanie ready to face the 9-3 Patriots in Foxborough, Mass.

He said he can wait until Friday to name his starter, or go up to game time "if we have to.''

He said he'll keep all of his options open, and his decision might be based on who gets enough practice time.

"It's a very fluid situation,'' said Chudzinski. "It's unique. It's something I haven't done before.''

As far as Hanie and Tanney are concerned, he said, "we'll tailor a package to either guy.''

Hanie was signed Tuesday as a free agent, and Tanney was signed last week off the Cowboys' practice squad.
