Martin Erat and Brooks Laich are out for the Washington Capitals’ game Sunday night against the Tampa Bay Lightning. Each player is dealing with a lower-body injury.
“Marty felt way better than he anticipated, so I don’t think it’s going to be too long,” coach Adam Oates said. “Brooksie, he’s still hurting. … Just to try to get an evaluation of where he is, but I think he’s going to be out for a few days.”
Laich will see renowned St. Louis-based groin specialist Dr. Michael Brunt in Washington, a team spokesman confirmed.
The 29-year-old forward missed the first 28 games of the season with a groin injury. Oates said this was not the same thing but was affecting Laich’s groin.
“They can’t quite get a handle on what it is,” the coach said. “He just doesn’t feel good. it’s a little sore everywhere, but not necessarily where he was in the groin, and that’s why he’s seeing the specialist he’s going to see on Tuesday.”
