Brooks gets a closer look from Bucks

"Marshon Brooks is getting a close look from the Bucks as draft day approaches, and it's possible the Providence guard is putting himself in contention to be selected at the No. 10 spot Thursday.

The Bucks worked out an interesting group of players on Tuesday, including the 6-foot-5 Brooks, 6-9 forward Chris Singleton of Florida State; 6-11 forward Jon Leuer of Wisconsin; 6-10 forward Chandler Parsons of Florida; 6-8 forward Tobias Harris of Tennessee; and 6-3 guard Josh Selby of Kansas.

Small forward Kawhi Leonard of San Diego State initially was expected to be part of the workout session, but he was not able to participate after suffering an injury in Detroit on Monday.

Bucks director of scouting Billy McKinney said Brooks was "very comparable" to two other shooting guards the team has worked out: Colorado's Alec Burks and Washington State's Klay Thompson.

"He's very crafty with the basketball," McKinney said. "I know he patterns his game after Kobe Bryant the way he moves and things like that. That's a stretch to say he'll be Kobe Bryant, but here's a guy who scored 52 points in a college basketball game (against Notre Dame) in Big East competition, so he's a pretty talented player."

Brooks has been moving up draft boards, or at least it seems that way. The proof will come on Thursday.

"I think it's just my chance to be seen," Brooks said. "At Providence with us not having three, four or five ESPN games, I didn't really have a breakout game where I hopped up on the scene. It took the combine (in Chicago) where I got to compete against the others and I fared well."

And about those Kobe Bryant comparisons? They come in part from Brooks' body type and also his scoring ability, but he's not too comfortable with them."
