Scour the list of NFL free-agent guards and there seems to be only one who is young, a proven starter, best suited for the left side and therefore an ideal fit with the Broncos.

Zane Beadles.

The other free-agent guards have had more success on the right side (Geoff Schwartz, Jon Asamoah, Rodger Saffold) — where the Broncos already have the best in all-pro Louis Vasquez — or they're up in age (Travelle Wharton, Willie Colon), or they have a substantial injury history (Chad Rinehart), or they're young but unproven (former Colorado State standout Shelley Smith).

"I'd love to be a Bronco," Beadles said. "But we'll see what happens."

Beadles' agent, Chase Callahan, can negotiate with other NFL teams this weekend. The league's free-agent signing period begins Tuesday at 2 p.m.

If the Broncos don't re-sign Beadles, they likely will replace him in-house or through the draft. The Broncos are planning to allocate most of their free-agent budget to the defensive side of the ball.

Replacing Beadles with the Broncos' own players would mean a shift of their offensive linemen. Ryan Clady will return at left tackle, so it's possible Chris Clark could compete at right tackle and Orlando Franklin could move inside to left guard. Or the Broncos could draft a center such as CSU's Weston Richburg and move Manny Ramirez back to his customary guard position. Maybe they draft a guard or center with the No. 31 pick (first round), the No. 63 selection (second round) or the No. 95 choice (third round) with the idea of starting him in the 2014 season opener.
